An intensive summer program for future screen actors
New this year! The Acting for the Camera session is being presented by the Midsummer Theatre Camp, which is sponsored by the IU Department of Theatre, Drama and Contemporary Dance. The session is a collaborative week-long experience coupled with the Advanced Filmmakers Academy, which is an intensive summer program for high school students interested in studying and creating films.
Spend a week learning from IU faculty about the ins and outs of acting for the camera, which has its own nuances from stage acting. After going through some hands on activities and instensive study for the first two days, students will spend the last three days getting professional hands on experience acting as talent for the student produced short films created in the Advanced Filmmakers Academy. The films will premiere at the end of the week on a big screen at the IU Campus.
Do you have a friend who is more interested in being behind the camera? Have them check out our Advanced Filmmakers Academy!
Some acting experience is preferred, but not necessarily screen acting. Details will be released soon on how to apply.
How to Apply
Admittance to this session is by application only. Follow the steps below to apply. We will be notifiying students on a rolling basis if they are accepted or not. You will hear back no later than April 28th, 2025.
- Record yourself acting out a monologue of your choice, no longer than 90 seconds.
- Upload it to YouTube or Vimeo. Feel free to set the privacy setting to Unlisted so that only those who know the URL can view it and it won't be publicly viewable. Don't set it to Private--that will cause permissions issues for us to review it.
- Fill out the application for Acting for the Camera. At the bottom of the application there will be a space to insert the YouTube/Vimeo URL link.
- There will be optional extra spots if you wish to include other video links from other performances. The only required link is the monologue.
- If you're having trouble finding a monologue, let us know and we can supply one.
