About the Cinema Academy

The IU Cinema Academy is a place for high school students to get hands on experience in the cinematic arts. Students will learn from IU faculty while using professional equipment at our state of the art facilities. IU and The Media School have a wealth of resources related to the cinematic arts and entertainment industry, and the Cinema Academy offers pre-college programs to help make the journey towards this demanding and rewarding career path fruitful — and fun!

Programs at the Cinema Academy emphasize hands-on experience, networking, friendship, mentorship, knowledge-sharing and preparing for studying the cinematic arts at a higher education institute.

Andrew Behringer

Director, Pre-College Programs

Andrew Behringer manages logistics for all of the Media School's pre-college programs, including the IU Cinema Academy.

He has worked on a variety of filmmaking projects, including music videos, short narrative films, documentaries, tv commercials, and a feature film. Robin Robinson

Lead Faculty, Screenwriting Academy

Robin Robinson joined the Media School as a lecturer in 2023. As part of the Media and Arts Production program, she helps shape the next generation of filmmakers, teaching screenwriting, producing, and production management courses.

She imparts her extensive programming knowledge and industry insights to aspiring creatives while challenging them to consider media’s cultural impact and how their future decisions can shape societal perceptions and values.

Bear Brown

Lead Faculty, Short Film Bootcamp & Advanced Filmmakers Academy

For three decades ,Senior Lecturer Paul “Bear” Brown has taught cinematography at Savannah College of Art & Design where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Film and Television.

“Bear” — emphasizing his approach on developing the Cinematographer — uses everything from comic books to photography to teach visual storytelling and the tools needed to communicate cinematic ideas.
