Sam Wichhart, senior
Hello! My name is Sam Wichhart, and I’m a senior in The Media School at IU and the president of Student Cinema Guild. I’m from the Chicago suburbs but I’m planning to move to Los Angeles this summer after I graduate with aspirations to work as a director and cinematographer in scripted TV/Film. I’ve been involved with filmmaking for about seven years now and have started a video production brand, Wish Heart Productions. In my free time, I enjoy buying too much coffee, watching short films, and DJing. In my second year as president and third year as an officer, I hope to combine my experience with the fantastic work of this year’s officers to bring Student Cinema Guild to its full potential. I’m very excited to see Student Cinema Guild grow this year and hope you can be a part of it.
Melanie Taylor, junior
Hey there! I’m Mel, the current vice president of SCG! My relationship with film started as an infant — specifically as a dedicated spectator and critic. As a baby, I wouldn’t be able to sleep laying down so my parents would have to hold me until I fell asleep, making them get into the habit of watching movies with me every night #dedicatedfromthestart. But on a real note, I love being on set and part of the creative aspect of filmmaking, whether it's as a producer, set designer, or a director. Being in the film community at IU and specifically in Student Cinema Guild has been wonderful, and I hope you choose to be part of it too! Huzzah!
Maeve Panich, junior
Hello! My name is Maeve Panich, and I’m a junior studying film and television production at the Media School. I’m the equipment officer for Student Cinema Guild. I’m from Indianapolis and hoping to move to Los Angeles following graduation to work either as an assistant director on sets or work in development for scripted content. I’m super excited to continue to grow Student Cinema Guild this year and to grow our community of Hoosier filmmakers!
Cal Schwartz, senior
Hello! My name is Cal and I’m from Naperville, Illinois. I’m a senior studying business in Kelley, but I have a strong passion for film. My favorite director is Stanley Kubrick and my dream is to be able to make movies for a living. I can talk just about anything so don’t be afraid to reach out.
Alex Barden, senior
Hi! My name is Alex, and I’m a senior studying film and television production. I am the new Secretary for SCG. I'm from Michigan City, Indiana, and I hope to be living in Los Angeles after I graduate. I would like to be a director or writer in any scripted production, preferably comedy or horror. My love for movies came from making short films all the way back at elementary school. I now hope to share that passion with the film community here at IU.
Josh Vanover, junior
Hi! I’m Josh and I’m a junior economics student who found filmmaking as a hobby and became hooked. I am the public relations officer for SCG and look forward to growing this club into a full-fledged community of filmmakers at IU!
