Animation Overnight Academy July 12-17
Greetings Animation Academy participants and parents!
We are incredibly excited to host such a talented group of young voices in Bloomington this summer and provide a wonderful experience to help you further your passion and create a tight-knit network of friendships as you explore animation.
To make the most of your week, we stress that you must read this page thoroughly.
First, please ensure that the three required e-forms linked below are filled out and submitted by a parent or guardian before registration on Sunday or we cannot allow your child to attend.

DROP-OFF/PICK-UP
Drop-off
Sunday, July 12th between 5-6pm EST
Collins Living Learning Center (541 N Woodlawn Ave, Bloomington, IN 47408)
You can park along Woodlawn Ave. to unload belongings and enter the main doors to check in with on-site staff. Please be sure to make room for others. Staff will be on the first floor of the center building (Edmondson) to greet you. You can refer to the maps linked here for further parking and check-in information. Please make sure you have the three e-forms completed and ready when you arrive.
Dinner is provided Sunday night after check-in.
*Should you realize you will be arriving late, call Nora, the Assistant Director, at (812) 327-0930 to inform her. If you are unable to reach her, you can call Andrew, the Program Director, at (812) 856-8083.
Optional Early Tour on Check-In Day
At 3pm on check-in day, we will be having an optional tour of the IU Media School’s facilities for families and students. Students will be seeing our facilities throughout the week, but for families who would like a tour, you can join us at 3pm. The tour will start at Collins Living Learning Center so you can deposit your belongings first. If you are interested, RSVP here.
Pick-up/Finale Event
Friday, July 17th, from 5:15-6pm EST
Franklin Hall - Commons (601 E Kirkwood Ave. Bloomington, IN 47405)
The finale event will take place in the Franklin Hall Commons. Staff will be at the south entrance (the oak double doors to the left after passing through the Sample Gates) to greet you and guiding you in the right direction. Students will get to present their projects to friends and family.Ticketing for EM-S/EM-P spaces will not be active after 5pm, so we recomend parking in the lot across from Franklin Hall for the finale. You will be picking up your student directly after the showcase. They will already have their belongings with them.
Flights
If you are flying in, please email cineacad@iu.edu with the following information:
- Arrival time at the Indianapolis Airport
- Flight number
- How you plan to arrive on campus
- Flight Departure Date/Time
If you are unable to get to the airport in time for an evening flight after the finale event, we can arrange for you to stay an extra night at Collins with an overnight counselor. Please let us know if you would like to arrange an extra night.
MEALS
Breakfast
Campers will be provided packaged breakfast items (fruit cups, granola bars, etc.) at Collins Living-Learning Center Dottie Commons Lounge before they leave for the day.
Lunch/Dinner
Campers will be eating lunch and dinner at the Wright Residence Hall Food Court (a 0.8 mile, 15 to 20 minute walk from Franklin Hall). Each student will be given a meal card that allows them access to the dining hall. All meals are all-you-care-to-eat, so there won’t be any issue of running out of money.
If you want to bring extra snacks with you for after hours, feel free!
Food Allergies/Dietary Restrictions
If you didn't list them on your registration form, please email us about any food allergies or dietary restrictions we need to be aware of. This information will affect the breakfasts and snacks we provide.
Generally, there is plenty of food in the dining halls to accommodate all diet types. We now have a new resource available called Nutrislice, which can be accessed here. It provides full menus for Wright Dining Hall as well as detailed information about allergens and dietary restrictions. By default, it will show the menu for the “Worry Free” zone first. At the top of the site, you can click on the different restaurant names (Stone Grill, Potato Bar, Slice, etc.) to view their menus.
An RPS Registered Dietician will also be on staff, so please feel free to contact them prior to the session for specific dietary discussions. Customers with life-threatening allergies should always use caution. Request to speak with the chef at dining locations to prepare food in allergen-free areas for your specific dietary needs.

THINGS TO BRING

On Friday morning, students will have to walk their belongings from Collins to Franklin Hall after checking out. It is a 0.5 mile walk, so please keep this in mind as you pack. If there are any accessibility concerns, we can make special arrangements with your student for luggage transportation, just email us and let us know.
ROOMMATES/FLOOR ASSIGNMENTS
Students are generally all paired with 1-2 roommates. The roommate(s) will almost always be a student within one year of age in either direction (ex. someone who is 16 could be paired with a 15 or 17 year old, but not an 18 year old). Before lights out, students will be permitted to socialize together in the same floor. After lights out, they will sleep on different floors, according to gender with at least one overnight counselor available on each floor. If you have any special requests regarding roommates, or if you identify as non-binary and would like to clarify your floor/room preference, please send us an email ahead of time if you didn't notate requests on your registration form (cineacad@iu.edu).
Stay Informed During Your Summer Program at IU Bloomington
If you're a visitor to Indiana University Bloomington and would like to receive real-time safety alerts, simply text "SafeIU" to 77295 to opt in for notifications.
Please note: This service is intended only for non-IU-affiliated visitors. IU students, faculty and staff already receive these notifications, and no further action is needed.
This free service is offered for campers and their parents back home. It will automatically stop in August after the camps, so you don't have to worry about permanently receiving alert messages after this summer.
Band App
We will be using a free app called Band to help counselors coordinate and share information with students throughout the week. Using the app is optional, but it can be useful for staff to communicate important announcements. This communication app is designed for youth-based programs and includes safety features like disabling direct/private messaging.
If students are able and willing, please install the app and create an account before camp begins.

For your profile name, students should use their real first and last name so camp staff can easily identify them. Their contact information will not be visible to other students.

NEW OPPORTUNITY
One incredible update - we're excited to share that we've arranged a special interactive, behind-the-scenes tour of the new IU KIX Lab before its official grand opening! The KIX Lab is IU's new state-of-the-art virtual production studio, featuring the same Unreal Engine powered LED volume technology used in productions such as The Mandalorian. All students must wear closed-toe shoes with rubber soles on the day of the tour. Please make sure your student wears appropriate footwear.
